Sheila Anderson is an Associate Professor of Early Childhood in the Department of Child and Family Studies at 91¶ÌÊÓÆµ. She has worked in the field of early childhood education for over 30 years as a classroom teacher, program director, university instructor, and researcher.

Dr. Anderson serves as chair of the Early Childhood Education programs, the only associate and bachelor's degree programs in Utah to receive the prestigious accreditation recognition from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Commission on the Accreditation of Higher Education Programs.

Dr. Anderson’s university and community service and systems change efforts center on promoting children’s developmental health, strengthening the early childhood workforce, and expanding access to high-quality early learning and higher education. To expand access to higher education, she has spearheaded the development of a concurrent enrollment pathway aligned with the Early Childhood Education I Professional Certificate, with an emphasis on bilingual and online delivery methods and place-based learning.

Community service highlights include chair and the Data & Research subcommittee, serving on the governing board, and serving as a founding member of both the and the .

Her scholarly work focuses on the effects of early parenting and teacher interactions on child development, using observational research methods. She received a Head Start Graduate Student Research Grant to develop an observational tool for assessing father-child interactions: . Current projects include adapting the Parents’ Interaction with Children: Checklist of Observations Linked to Outcomes (PICCOLO) for use with families in China and with family child care professionals.
