Registration

As an MHA or EMHA student, you must register for at least nine credits each semester to be considered full-time.

• MHA Format

  • Register for courses in the Weber State .
  • MHA courses for each semester are listed in the online course schedule.
  • Please consult our enrollment director for information about course scheduling and courses you are eligible for each semester.

• EMHA Format

  • EMHA students register for their courses in the Weber State eWeber Portal.
  • EMHA courses are not listed in the online course schedule. Our enrollment director will send you specific registration instructions each semester, including the EMHA courses offered and available to you and the specific course identifier (CRN) needed to register.

Academic Policies and Procedures

MHA students are expected to attend all scheduled class sessions and orientation

EMHA students are expected to attend the mandatory on-campus orientation

• GPA

  As an MHA or EMHA student, you must maintain a graduate grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher to remain in good standing and to graduate. If your GPA falls below the required 3.0, the program may place you on probation for a semester. If your GPA remains below 3.0 for more than one semester, the appropriate committee will review your grades, and you may be dismissed from the program.

• Grades and Grading Policies

  You must earn a grade of C or higher in all required courses. All MHA and EMHA courses must be taken for a grade, as they cannot be audited or graded as pass/fail. Unless otherwise arranged by the course professor, you must complete your coursework by the last day of class.

  Standard Grading Scale

  • 100-94% = A
  • 93-90% = A-
  • 89-88% = B+
  • 87-83% = B

  • 82-80% = B-
  • 79-78% = C+
  • 77-73% = C
  • 72-70% = C-

  • 69-68% = D+
  • 67-63% = D
  • 69-61% = D-
  • Below 60% = E

• Appealing Dismissal from the MHA Program

  If you have been dismissed from the MHA program, you will receive a letter from the MHA Program Director or the Department of Health Administrative Services (HAS) Department Chair explaining the dismissal. You will have the option to appeal the dismissal by:

  1. Submitting a formal appeal letter to the HAS Department Chair within 30 days of receiving the dismissal letter. The appeal letter is an opportunity to provide information regarding your dismissal, express why you should be allowed to continue in the MHA Program, and present a plan to address the reason for dismissal if allowed to resume MHA coursework.
  2. The MHA faculty will decide to either uphold the dismissal or allow the student back into the program on probation status. The student will be notified of that decision within five working days to their Weber State email from the HAS Department Chair.
  3. If the HAS Department denies the appeal, you can request a review by the Dumke College of Health Professions (DCHP) grievance committee. The committee comprises DCHP faculty members from various departments within the college and one DCHP student representative.
  4. If granted a hearing, you will again be allowed to express to the committee why you should be allowed to continue in the MHA program and present a plan to address the reason for dismissal. The DCHP grievance committee will respond with a recommendation to the HAS Department Chair. Note that this is only a recommendation, and the HAS Department will consider the committee’s comments.

• Plagiarism

  Plagiarism is the attempt to perpetrate academic fraud by claiming another’s work as your own. It will not be tolerated. The 91¶ÌÊÓƵ Student Code defines plagiarism as “the unacknowledged (uncited) use of any other person or group’s ideas or work” (PPM 6-22, part IV, subsection D). Any attempt to claim credit for another’s work, in whole or in part, violates this policy and is regarded as a serious offense.

• Program Status

  While it is not encouraged, you can change your status from part or full time after notifying the MHA enrollment director. This is typically allowed if, as a MHA student, you experience a move due to a change in employment. Any changes to the program of study, as outlined, will need to be approved in writing by the MHA Program Director. Changing from full time to part time may severely delay your graduation.

• Leave of Absence

  If you need to take a leave of absence from the program, you may enroll in the next semester and take the missed courses when they are offered during the next academic year. Taking a leave of absence will delay your original estimated graduation date. If you wish to request a leave of absence, please email the MHA enrollment director.

• Graduation

  Upon completing the course requirements, the MHA enrollment director will clear you for graduation for the MHA degree. You must apply for graduation and follow 91¶ÌÊÓƵ procedures to have the degree awarded. Contact the enrollment director at the beginning of your final semester to correctly apply for graduation.

  Dual degree students (MHA only)
  Dual degree students in either the MHA primary or MBA primary degree programs must complete all required MHA courses, including all MHA/MBA equivalent courses, to graduate with the MHA degree, regardless of having the MHA program as the primary or secondary degree.

• Nondiscrimination, Accessibility, and ADA Compliance

  91¶ÌÊÓƵ prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, pregnancy, genetics, age (over 40), disability, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, veteran or active military status, and other classifications protected by law.   ADA Compliance
  91¶ÌÊÓƵ will provide full access to persons with disabilities to all university services, programs and facilities, including multiple physical campuses and buildings, communication, and information services, websites, applications and technological resources, and any ancillary or associated entities contracted by 91¶ÌÊÓƵ to provide such programs and services, as required by law. 91¶ÌÊÓƵ faculty and staff shall work cooperatively with qualified students, employees, and others who request accommodations in order to provide access to the programs, services and activities of 91¶ÌÊÓƵ, as required by law. If there are disputes regarding the accommodations, faculty and staff will work cooperatively to resolve such disputes. PPM 3-32 prohibits discrimination and harassment against individuals with disabilities.

• Grievances Against Faculty and Staff

  Grievances Against Faculty (PPM 10.3.2.4)

  Grievances against an individual faculty member on grounds other than grading, course sanctions, academic dishonesty, or admission/standing in restricted enrollment programs shall be referred to the appropriate department chair, dean, vice president, or other responsible administrator for resolution according to the provisions of Section 9 of the PPM. Specific guidance with respect to this procedure should be obtained from the Due Process Officer. Individuals should submit their petitions as soon as possible, but no later than six (6) months after the event or issue being contested. Where the interests of justice require, however, this time limit may be extended with the approval of the Due Process Officer. The student’s petition must contain a statement of the relief sought (desired outcome) and a short account of the facts, reasons, and rationale to support the desired outcome.

  Grievances Against Staff/Administration (PPM 10.3.2.5)

  Whenever possible, complaints or grievances should be resolved at the lowest level possible (i.e.,: staff member, supervisor, director, etc.). If unresolved, grievances against an individual member of the University staff or administration should be referred to the vice president having supervisory jurisdiction over the subject matter of the complaint for resolution according to the provisions of the Student Code or other relevant portions of the PPM. (See PPM 3-31a). Specific guidance with respect to this procedure should be obtained from the Due Process Officer.

Advising and Career Support

It is our policy to advise and support all students’ careers through a wide variety of programs and opportunities. While we acknowledge that our MHA and EMHA program formats have been created for working healthcare professionals, we understand that your current job(s) and experiences do not preclude your desire or need for ongoing career advice, support, and/or services.

We therefore offer the following advising and career support programs, processes, and procedures.

• Academic Advising

  From first inquiry to graduation, MHA and EMHA students are offered specific and detailed information and support by our enrollment director.

  The enrollment director can respond to inquiries, assist in the program application process, and create an individualized program of study for you. Each semester, our enrollment director assists and advises you to register for classes while personally answering questions regarding courses, course materials, and professors. In addition, the enrollment director assists you through the graduation process. The MHA Program Director and all faculty also available to assist and advise you throughout the academic process.

• Administrative Internships and Fellowships

  Extensive information about the availability of and application materials for Administrative Internships and Fellowships is made available to all MHA and EMHA students throughout their graduate program experience.

  This information is sent to you as available and often includes local and regional health organizations, in-house opportunities, as well as national fellowship opportunities. In addition, if you wish to apply for internships or fellowships, we can refer you to our Executive in Residence, or prior successful alumni for help and consultation regarding applications or interviews.

• Executive in Residence

  Our Executive in Residence is a seasoned and experienced C-Suite executive who is available to students online and face-to-face for career enhancing activities, such as, but not limited to:

  • One-on-one career discussions
  • Resume, interview, and job search consultation
  • Networking contacts
  • Internship or fellowship application consultation
  • Case Study Competition coaching

• Scheduled Competency Review and Career Advisement

  A personalized scheduled competency review and career advisement session is provided to you in the second semester of your first year and the first semester of your second year. Other opportunities are also available to students who request them.

  Second Semester of the First Year
  You will meet with the MHA Program Director. The MHA program competencies are discussed along with individual student competency attainment. Your current work experience and career goals are discussed with guidance provided. Feedback from the team and self-assessment data from your first year are also discussed to provide insights into strengths and areas for improvement. Expectations and guidance for the second year of the program are also discussed.

  First Semester of the Second Year
  You will meet with the Executive in Residence. This personalized session focuses on the items from the first-year session, with a key focus on career development. These sessions allow you to plan one-on-one competency and career development at least once a year.

• Career Mailings

  MHA and EMHA students are sent a list of fellowship, scholarship, and career opportunity listings, as made available to the program.

• Career Development

  Career development is provided for all students. This frames the art and science of leadership in relation to career development, as well as building a successful career through informative sessions.

  You will be provided with resource materials that will enable you to enhance your interactions with program faculty and leadership in their scheduled and unscheduled guidance sessions.

• MHA Alumni Association and Speaker Series

  Our alumni association hosts educational and networking events that include current students and past graduates. In addition, the MHA Alumni Association has an active where current and past students are encouraged to network and mentor each other. 

  MHA Alumni Association Speaker Series
  In conjunction with the Dumke College of Health Professions Annual Speaker Series, each year, the MHA Alumni Association sponsors a professional to speak on topics of importance to current MHA and EMHA students, MHA and EMHA program alumni, and local healthcare professionals.

  This event is always held in conjunction with a networking session and is coordinated with the Utah Healthcare Executives, our state chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), for continuing education credits. Through this event, students are recipients of the most current healthcare information and also have the opportunity to network with other students and healthcare professionals.

• Scholarship Opportunities

  Within Weber State and through our relationships with local, regional, and national health organizations, 18 systems and associations, we can provide scholarship opportunities for our MHA and EMHA students.

  These scholarships support you in your current educational endeavors. They also offer the chance to attend and participate in local, regional, and national conferences. These experiences enhance knowledge of the foci of these conferences while providing the vital opportunity to expand your professional network, which is key to career progress and advancement. 

  You will be notified of such scholarships via email as the opportunities arise.

• Utah Healthcare Executives (UHE)

  Our state American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) organization, the Utah Healthcare Executives (UHE), provides a formal mentoring program for MHA and EMHA students who wish to participate. In addition, UHE holds well publicized monthly meetings that are free to our MHA students, regardless of membership. These meetings are not only educational but also excellent networking and mentoring events.

  All MHA and EMHA students are strongly encouraged to join ACHE and to become active in their state ACHE organizations.

• 91¶ÌÊÓƵ Career Services

  91¶ÌÊÓƵ also has a robust Career Services department available to all students. The Dumke College of Health Professions, in which the MHA program is housed, has a career counselor specifically assigned to it. Career Services offers a wide range of programs and services to all students, including but not limited to:
