Registration Overrides
Registration overrides allow students to register for classes when they encounter a registration restriction.
Instructor or departmental approval is required for students to add a class beginning on the sixth business day of the semester or block. The primary instructor listed on a course can issue an override.
If you as the primary instructor for a course do not issue overrides, please reach out to your department’s Administrative Specialist or whomever has been designated to enter overrides for your department.
Before issuing an override, take note of the following:
- Use the appropriate override for the registration restriction message that the student is receiving. Do not override the waitlist.
- Do not use the “Capacity” override until the second week of classes. Students can be added to classes only after online registration and waitlisting has ended.
- Open registration and waitlisting ends after the fifth business day of when classes start.
- Use the “Special Approval” override to allow students to register for your class after the add deadline.
- If your class is full, you will need to enter a “Capacity” override in addition to the “Special Approval” override.
How To Enter Registration Overrides
There are two methods for entering registration overrides, using either the Lynx Self Service app or the Faculty Dashboard app, which will take you to Lynx Self Service, in the eWeber portal.

Types of Overrides
Capacity Override
This allows students to register for full courses. Do not use it when a course has waitlisted students.
Classification (Class) Override
This override allows students to register for a class that's restricted by class standing, such as courses restricted to juniors and seniors.
Cohort Override
This allows students to register for a cohort-restricted class without being declared in the required cohort.
Corequisite Override
This allows students to register for a course without registering for its corequisite; corequisite courses are required to be taken during the same semester.
Degree Override
This allows students to register for a course that’s restricted to those who have earned a degree.
Duplicate Override
This allows students to register or waitlist for duplicate courses that have the same Course Number but different Course Titles and Course Registration Numbers (CRNs).
Level Override
This allows students to register or waitlist for a course that is restricted by level to either undergraduates or graduate students.
Major Override
This allows students to register for a major-restricted class without being declared in the required major.
Prerequisite Override
This allows students to register for a course without having taken or passed its required prerequisite course(s).
Program Override
A program override allows a student to register for a course that is typically restricted to students who have declared a specific program.
Special Approval Override
This allows students to register for a class whenever instructor approval is required or after online registration has closed. This fixes the "Contact Instructor/Dept" error message.
