Waitlist For Classes

Waitlisting is an option that gives students the opportunity to register for a closed class, or a class that’s already full, if a seat becomes available.

All classes will have waitlists with 100 spots available except for the following exceptions:

  • Courses that have a max enrollment of one or zero
  • Courses where multiple lectures are linked to multiple labs

To find out if a class has a waitlisting option, look in the “Status” column in the Register for Classes app. If you hover over that information, you will see how many seats remain in that class and/or how many waitlist seats remain.

When an open seat becomes available, an email will be sent to the Wildcat email address of the student at the top of the waitlist with the information of the class that’s open for registration.

The student has 24 hours from the time the notice was sent to go online and add the class. If the student doesn’t respond, the next student on the list will be notified of the open seat and have 24 hours to respond. If you’re waitlisting a class, we recommend regularly checking your email.

Waitlisting for a class does not guarantee you will be added to the class.

  1. To get on a waitlist, hover over the information inside the “Status” column to see if there is waitlist information.
  2. Click on the “Add” button to put this class on your “Summary” list of classes. If the “Add” but ton is grayed out, the class is full without a waitlist option.
  3. In the Action column, the class will show as “Pending.” Click on the dropdown arrow, click on “Waitlisted” and click “Submit.” The waitlisted course will then show up in your schedule or schedule details.

Waitlisting FAQ

How can I see what my priority position is on the class I am waitlisting?

Click the small arrow on the left of the course title. This will display a message with additional details about the waitlisted course including “Waitlist Position.” The “Waitlist Position” shows the countdown to the next available open seat.

If your position is No. 1, you are the next student who will get the opportunity to register for that seat. The student who has the zero (0) position is within their 24-hour period of where they can register for the open seat.

What happens if I miss my 24-hour window to add the waitlisted class?

If you miss your 24-hour window to register for a seat in a waitlisted class, you will automatically be removed from the waitlist and the next person in the queue will be notified of the vacancy. If you want to try to enroll in the class again, add yourself to the waitlist again. You will be at the bottom of the waitlist.

I received an error message when trying to add the waitlisted class

If you attempt to register for a class that you are waitlisted for and get an error message, additional instructions will appear as a red box in the top right corner of your screen. Follow the instructions provided in order to register for the course section. Also check your registration window. Students have a 24-hour window to register for a waitlisted course once the email notification is sent.

How long does registration and waitlisting last?

Registration, online overrides and waitlisting all end on the Friday of the first week of school at midnight. You must have permission to add classes late starting the second week of school.

Why didn’t I get an email notice during my 24-hour period?
